Tempura shrimp is a delightful Japanese dish consisting of crispy battered shrimp, perfect for appetizers or as part of a meal. The light and airy batter gives the shrimp a satisfying crunch while keeping the meat tender and juicy inside.
Ingredients:
- 12 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup ice-cold water
- Oil for frying
- Soy sauce, for serving optional
- Tempura dipping sauce, for serving optional
Instructions:
Put flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and mix them together
Whisk in the cold water little by little until the batter is smooth
In a deep fryer or large pot, heat the oil to 375F 190C
Coat each shrimp completely with the batter by dipping it in it
Carefully add the shrimp to the hot oil one at a time
Fry for two to three minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy
Take the shrimp out of the oil and let them dry on paper towels
If you want, you can serve it hot with soy sauce or tempura dipping sauce
